The regularly scheduled Board Meeting scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2020 has been rescheduled to Monday, June 29, 2020 at 7:00.
Baccalaureate will be held Sunday, May 24 at 6:00 (Rain Date Wednesday, May 27) in front of the school.  Bring your own lawn chair.  
Graduation is planned for Saturday, May 30 at 10:00.  If social restrictions are lifted, it will be held in the gym as in the past.  If social restrictions are not lifted, it will be held outside on the side parking lot.  Guests of graduates with tickets will sit inside the fenced in area in family pods of 9.  Guests without tickets may bring lawn chairs and sit outside the fenced area while still following CDC guidelines.  In case of rain and it is outside, we will hold graduation on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 10:00 rain or shine.  If it rains, graduation will be held in the gym with parents only.
Prom is tentatively scheduled for June 27 at Meadow Heights.  
Offices will be open for phone calls beginning Monday, April 27, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Summer School Signup: Summer School is tentatively scheduled for June 1st through 26th if social distancing rules are lifted by May 26. 2020 Summer School

Overview

MEADOW HEIGHTS R-II has taken steps to prepare for the health, wellness, and safety for students and staff participating in summer school.  This guide is a living document and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.  Please see the information below for a set of general guidelines and expectations. Decisions will be made in coordination with local and state guidelines.

Building Hours of Operation/Attendance Hours

  • Building will be open 7:45-3:00 for Summer School and 3:00-5:00 for After-School Care for Pickup and Dropoff Student only
  • Visitors will be limited to the front office only

Transportation

  • Students will be separated on the bus where feasible
  • Sibling groups will be seated together
  • Buses will be appropriately disinfected after each use
  • Bus drivers have been properly trained in COVID safety measures

Arrival

  • Parent drop off will be car lane only to reduce the number of people entering the building
  • Students will use hand sanitizer or hand washing upon arrival into classrooms
  • Common areas will be restricted where feasible

Dismissal

  • Use of the car line for student pick-up or bus only. No in-person parent pick-up to avoid parent gatherings in school lobby or in front of school
  • Hand washing/hand sanitizing will be available at dismissal
  • After-School Care will be available from 3:00-5:00 to allow for parents to pick up their child after work (Students will need to bring their own after school snack)

Breakfast and Lunch

  • Breakfast and lunch will be bagged (grab and go)
  • Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in classrooms.
  • Hand washing/hand sanitizer will be available before and after lunch

Classrooms

  • Staff should be in the classroom ready to receive children
  • Multiple social distancing strategies will be implemented based on feasibility of the unique space and needs of each school
  • Students will be encouraged to maintain distance from each other in the school and taught appropriate hygiene/COVID practices
  • All students will keep their own supplies for use in the classroom
  • Personal water bottles will be utilized
  • Built in time during the day for frequent handwashing and hand sanitizing
  • Class sizes will in most cases be smaller than usual
  • Appropriate measures will be taken for cleaning Chromebooks
  • Observe students for illness prior to starting class and refer students to nurse
  • Teachers will switch classrooms, not students

Passing Periods

  • Movement throughout buildings will be limited or reduced
  • Hand washing/hand sanitizer will be available

Visitors/Volunteers

  • Nonessential visitors will be limited
  • No lunch guests or volunteers at the elementary/intermediate levels
  • Any person wanting to visit the campus will be encouraged to conduct business by phone or email
  • Parents retrieving a child before the scheduled drop-off and pickup times will be encouraged to call district personnel in the building office and the child will be escorted outside to eliminate interactions
  • Normal security protocols will be in place regarding locked entrances and speaker communications for those attempting to enter the buildings 

Playgrounds 

  • Students will be monitored for social distancing while on playgrounds
  • Handwashing/sanitizer upon re-entry to building
  • Frequently used playground hard surfaces will be cleaned routinely
  • Playground balls and other equipment will need to be cleaned routinely

Field Trips

  • There will be no field trips taken during the Summer School 2020 session.  It is believed that students will be better served during the COVID-19 outbreak if they are kept on campus.  One priority for the Summer School 2020 session is to limit interactions with outside people.  While field trips are important regarding the learning process, at this time students will not have the opportunity to participate by going to outside locations  

Cleaning/ Hygiene

  • Cleaning with COVID and EPA approved products will target cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched hard, non-porous surfaces, such as counters, tabletops, stair rails, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, drinking fountains, and any other surfaces that are visibly necessary
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers will be installed at most exterior doors and in classrooms

Health Services

  • School nurses will provide COVID safety training/materials to faculty and staff
  • If you have medication for your child, please schedule a time with the school nurse to drop it off
  • Encourage staff self-screening
  • Encourage parents to screen students at home prior to sending to school
  • Students or staff demonstrating symptoms will be referred to physician or virtual clinic ~ Prior to returning to school, consult school nurse or provide documentation from physician
  • Exclusion procedures will follow best practices
  • Any student/staff with a fever of 99.9 will be sent home immediately and cannot return to school until they are symptom free for 72 hours

PPE

  • Use of personal masks will be allowed for students but not supplied
  • Use of personal masks will be optional for staff but may be required in special situations

On March 27, 2020, President Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act into law. The CARES Act is a $2 trillion relief package to address the economic fallout related to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Section 18003 makes funds available from the Education Stabilization Fund for grants to State Education Agencies for elementary and secondary school emergency relief.

Section 18005 of the Act provides that Local Education Agencies (LEAs) receiving funds from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund must provide equitable services to non-public schools as required under section 1117 of the ESEA. However, control of these funds and title to materials, equipment and property purchased with such funds must remain with the public school district, and be administered by the public LEA. Public school districts will need to consult with non-public school officials to determine how the services will be provided to the non-public schools.

Allowable Uses Applicable to Non-Public Schools

  1. Any activity authorized by the ESEA of 1965, including;
    • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1400, et seq.) (“IDEA”),
    • The Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (34 U.S.C. 463, et seq.),
    • The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (20 U.S.C. 2301, et seq.) (“the Perkins Act”), or
    • Subtitle 8 of title VII of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11431, et seq.).
  2. Coordinating the preparedness and response efforts of local educational agencies (LEAs) with state and local public health departments and other relevant agencies to improve coordinated responses among such entities to prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19.
  3. Providing principals and others school leaders with the resources necessary to address the needs of their individual schools.
  4. Developing and implementing activities to address the unique needs of low-income children or students, children with disabilities, English learners, racial and ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness, and foster care youth through activities that include how outreach and service delivery will meet the needs of each population.
  5. Developing and implementing procedures and systems to improve the preparedness and response efforts of LEAs.
  6. Training and professional development for LEA staff on sanitation and minimizing the spread of infectious diseases.
  7. Purchasing supplies to sanitize and clean the facilities of the LEA, including buildings operated by such agency.
  8. Planning for and coordinating during long-term closures, including how to:
    • provide meals to eligible students,
    • provide technology for online learning to all students,
    • provide guidance for carrying out requirements under the IDEA; and,
    • ensure other educational services can continue to be provided consistent with all federal, state and local requirements.
  9. Purchasing educational technology (including hardware, software and connectivity) for students who are served by the LEA that aids in regular and substantive educational interaction between students and their classroom instructors, including low-income students and students with disabilities, which may include assistive technology or adaptive equipment.
  10. Providing mental health services and supports.
  11. Planning and implementing activities related to summer learning and supplemental afterschool programs, including providing classroom instruction or online learning during the summer months and addressing the needs of low-income students, students with disabilities, English learners, migrant students, students experiencing homelessness and children in foster care.

The CARES Act funds are for the 2019-20 school year and will be available to LEAs for use until September 30, 2022.

While the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has a number of nonpublic schools registered for participation in federal programs, there may be additional nonpublic schools that wish to receive an equitable share of services funded by the CARES Act.-. Nonpublic schools not registered with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) may contact the Federal Programs Section to participate in the CARES Act services.

It is important to note that the non-public school will not receive funds, but rather services from the public school district.

If you choose to participate in the services the CARES Act funds offer, the Department will need confirmation from the nonpublic school of their wishes to participate as well as enrollment counts and economic deprivation counts BEFORE June 1, 2020.
